Well Come for II WORKSHOP OF INORGANIC MASS SPECTROMETRY (II-WIMS).

I-WIMS was realized at Centro de Estudos Ambientais – CEA (Environmental Studies Centre) located at UNESP Campus – Rio Claro – SP, where researchers from different fields (Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Physics) presented high quality of lectures. This first event included theoretical and practical quadrupole ICP-MS courses.

II-WIMS will occur at USP-São Paulo, where renowned speakers are also invited. In this meeting will given theoretical and practical courses about “in situ” isotopic analysis by laser ablation – Ion Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and Sensitivity High Resolution Ion Micro Probe (SHRIMP). Also, it will happen a session of scientific meeting for the technique of dating by U-Pb geochronological method by LA-ICP-MS, SHRIMP and CA -ID-TIMS (chemical ablation – isotopic dilution – thermal ionization mass spectrometry). The Australian speaker will present Archaean stromatolite of 3.7Ga involving an interdisciplinary subject in geology, biology and oceanography areas.

The mass spectrometry application field is very wide. Currently, there is a great and growing interest in isotope geochemistry, environmental chemistry, occupational health, nutrition, medicine, biochemistry areas, among others. This workshop – II-WIMS – aims to integrate multi-institutional and interdisciplinary professionals / researchers working in the area of inorganic mass spectrometry. The technical session with professionals from other mass spectrometry laboratories in the geological area (UnB, UERJ, ISO-Pará-Belém, UNICAMP-USP, IG-USP, UFOP-MG) will give a great contribution for analytical techniques, correction of interfering elements and integrations of “mass bias”, and the influences of the software to obtain the age by geochronological method U-Pb in zircon. In other field, such as, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Oceanography and Physics, invited speakers with high know-how will present mass spectrometry techniques with the purpose of showing their applications in the area of their knowledge. We hope the discussions and shared knowledge by professionals through this workshop bring an immeasurable scientific contribution.
